Join us this November for four nights in the heart of Bath when the annual Mozartfest celebrates its 35th Anniversary! We stay at the 4* Hampton by Hilton, located just on the edge of the pedestrianised centre of the city. Three of the evening concerts take place at St Mary’s Church, Bathwick and transfers to and from these concerts are included. The other three concerts are at the Guildhall & Bath Abbey - both less than 10 minutes walk from the hotel.
Executive coach travel is included from the usual Northwest pick-up points plus Crewe and Birmingham International Stations (see Booking Form for exact details). If you drive yourself to Bath we can offer parking at the Avon Street for a flat rate of £60 for 5 days (50% reduction).
On Thursday and Saturday morning we visit the Holburne Museum and American Museum in the city. On Friday we will drive east to explore the historic streets of Lacock, a quintessential English village with timber-framed cottages and local shops. With its central grid of four streets, Lacock today looks much as it did 200 years ago and has made appearances in Downton Abbey, the BBC’s Pride and Prejudice and Cranford. The films Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Wolfman were also filmed here. We will also have time to visit the Fox Talbot Museum before returning to Bath late afternoon.
The wonderful concert programme is detailed below:
Wednesday 12th November, 730pm
Tenebrae
The music of tonight’s concert comes from William Byrd and Thomas Tallis, both well known in early English music, but also the lesser-known John Mundy and Robert White. All were brought up as Catholics and witnessed the suffering of many as England veered between Catholicism and the new English Protestantism. The works in this concert represent some of the deeply moving devotional music of the day, gloriously illustrating profound religious conviction.
