Welsh National Opera have announced their Autumn Season at the magnificent Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff. Alexander Joel conducts David McVicar's mesmerising production of Puccini's Il Trittico and Pietro Rizzo conducts a new production of Verdi's Rigoletto.
Several of you joined us for our visit to Glasgow last year to see Sir David McVicar's 5* breathtaking production of Il Trittico. This joint production (with Scottish Opera) returns to Cardiff for the only 'complete' performances of Puccini's three one-act operas. If you didn't get to see it before DONT miss the chance to see a production with three unique sets that is worthy of any of the great opera houses of the world. This visit is twinned with a new production of Verdi's Rigoletto makes for a three night break in the Welsh capital that is not to be be missed.
We are happy to be returning to Cardiff for these two performances and to be able to stay in the heart of the city. The Indigo Hotel, located in the Dominions Arcade in Queen Street is described by the Daily Telegraph thus "Welsh culture and quirky symbolism have been bottled up in each of the 122 rooms at Cardiff’s Hotel Indigo, giving the city an injection of modern accommodation with boutique leanings and a headline Marco Pierre White restaurant that has captured the attention of locals".
Our seats at the Millennium Centre are in the mid stalls rows J & K so perfectly placed for both view and sound balance.
As well as a Welcome dinner on the first evening, we have pre-performance meals included before each opera. As always, wine/soft drinks is included with all meals.
During our stay as well as a visiting the Cardiff Bay waterfront, we will visit the ethnographic St Fagan's Museum. It consists of more than forty re-erected buildings from various locations in Wales, and is set in the grounds of St Fagans Castle, a Grade I listed Elizabethan manor house. Following a £30m revamp in 2018 it was voted Art Fund Museum of the Year 2019.
Transfers from our usual Northwest pick-up points are included and on our journey down to Cardiff we will make a stop to visit The Firs just outside Worcester, birthplace of Edward Elgar. On our return journey we will stop at the beautiful Arts & Crafts era Winterbourne House, at the University of Birmingham.
