Maestro! clients enjoyed many visits to the wonderful 'Progetto Martha Argerich' which was held in Lugano until 2016. The three weeks of music making was graced by Martha's great musical friends and their families together with outstanding young musicians playing as equals. In 2018 the Progetto took it's current form in collaboration with the Symphoniker Hamburg and includes symphonic & chamber performances as well as recitals. In 2021 as Martha celebrates her 80th birthday we plan to spend six nights in this elegant historic city during the Festival.
The Festival Martha Argerich incudes symphonic & chamber performances as well as recitals. Since its long overdue and massively over-budget debut in 2017, the Elbphilharmonie has dominated Hamburg’s skyline & musical life. However, the glorious Laeiszhalle – over a century older – is Martha's favourite hall and is home to the Symphoniker Hamburg and the majority of concerts.
As with all of our professional orchestra friends, planning for 2021 is still a challenge, however plans are already under way for next June and we hope to have full details in November.
We will stay at the deluxe Renaissance Hamburg. This contemporary hotel is situated in the historic Broscheks building in the heart of the city just a couple of minutes walk to the Jungfernstieg Shopping Promenade and Hamburg's beautiful inner lake, the Binnenalster. The restored docks area (including the Elbphilharmonie) is two stops on the S-Bahn or around 20 minutes walk.
The hotel is in the heart of the city, less than 10 minutes walk (700 metres) from the Laeiszhalle and a similar distance to the 'Composer's Quarter' which is centered on the Brahms Museum but also houses departments dedicated to Telemann, CPE Bach, Johann Adolf Hasse, Fanny & Felix Mendelssohn & Gustav Mahler - each housed in a series of historic town-houses.
During our stay we will also visit St Michaels Church, the most important baroque church in Northern Germany and home to no less than six organs!
We plan to include a minimum of four concerts or recitals as well as a full programme of sightseeing in Hamburg and in the surrounding region including the Hanseatic city of Luebeck.
Flights will be with Easyjet direct from Manchester. Departures from London & Edinburgh are also possible.
