We are delighted to be heading back in the winter warmth of Tenerife in January for the 43rd Canary Islands International Music Festival. We have included five concerts (full details shown below) including two with the magnificent Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under Maestro Klaus Mäkelä!
For 2027 we return to one of the original 'grand dame' hotels of the Canary Islands, the 5* Hotel Botánico. A member of the Leading Hotels of the World, the hotel has been the 'go to' address in the resort of Puerto de la Cruz for many years. Set in 25,000 sqm of tropical gardens, the hotel is also home to The Oriental Spa Garden which has received numerous awards as the best hotel spa in Europe and the Mediterranean. The hotel has four restaurants and two swimming pools.
Our Double Deluxe rooms have a comfortable bedroom with sofa and balcony. The bathrooms, panelled with Italian marble, have double wash basins, separate shower and bathtub. The rooms are quipped with Loewe flatscreen satellite tv, minibar, safe, bathrobe and slippers. All rooms have air-conditioning, free wifi and 24 hour room service. Entrance to the Spa 'Thermal Circuit' is included for our guests and details of additional services (to be paid direct at the hotel) will be sent with your confirmation.
Puerto de la Cruz was the first truly international resort of the Canary Islands with 'spa' guests arriving from the 1890's. Aside from the beautiful gardens and grounds of the hotel, it is situated close to to the historic Botanical Gardens of Tenerife.
Santa Cruz, where four of our concerts take place, is joint Capital of the Canary Islands. The entire north of the island (Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz) is very much the ‘secret’ Tenerife. 90% of guests arriving at the airport turn left and head for the concrete jungle of the south coast. Those few that head north are rewarded with a charming city that retains an ‘old town’ feel yet is full of life, excellent restaurants and plenty of shopping. The city has the old port area (which is now a mix of shops, cafes, galleries etc) and set behind the old town (in a semi-circle from the left side to the right side of town) is the Rambla of Santa Cruz.
A marvel of modern Spain are the concert halls and opera houses that have appeared since the turn of the millennium. Santiago Calatrava's magnificent Auditorio de Tenerife opened in 2003. The Canary Islands Festival is well establised as one of the premiere classical music festivals of Europe and one of the few that takes place in the winter.
During our stay we will have two half day walking tours of Santa Cruz and La Laguna and two excursions by private coach, on one day visiting the Anaga Forest and some of the beautiful gardens of the island and the second traversing the island to the moon-like Mount Teide National Park.
The journey from Santa Cruz to Mount Teide is one of the great drives of the world as you climb first through semi-tropical vegetation, then through a beautiful pine forest emerging from the ‘Corona Forrestal’ around 5,000ft. The drive continues along the spine of the mountain, occasionally above the cloud to around 7,000ft where we reach the unique Roques de García. The drive affords wonderful views to both sides of the island. The magical primeval 'cloud forest' of the Anaga in the north is another unique experience of this fascinating island.
