Every once in a while a regional German house draws together their resources of house singers, actors and resident orchestra and creates a Ring. We experienced this in Weimar and Dessau in recent years and now Chemnitz have produced what from all accounts is an extremely well sung and orchestrated Ring. The production (as is often the case) may have an occasional challenging moment but I am told by good (and critical!) friends from Hamburg that it is a Ring worth seeing!
We have received an allocation of good stalls tickets for the Oper Chemnitz Ring Cycle which takes place next Easter. We stay six nights at the highly regarded Hotel an der Oper which is connected directly to the opera house. Breakfast is included each morning and we have three dinners and a lunch included.
Chemnitz, located south-east of Leipzig, is deep in the old East not far from the Czech border and 100km closer to Prague than to Berlin. Flights will be available from Manchester, Heathrow and London City. Other airports are on request and full flight details will be available in June this year.
On our ‘free’ day we head 150km south to Bayreuth and visit The Wagner Museum at Villa Wahnfried. It’s also less than an hour’s drive from both Zwickau (birthplace of Robert Schumann) and the classic Saxon University town of Freiberg. We will have half day visits to both towns during our stay.

The six night holiday cost is £1895 per person based on two sharing a twin or double Premium room and £2095 for sole use of a premium double room. The deposit is £750 which includes the full ticket subscription (as this has to be paid immediately).
