We return to the wonderful Hotel Stella d'Italia for a week of food & music on the Italian shore of Lake Lugano with concerts and recitals at the Progetto Martha Argerich, a feast for anyone who loves good food, the piano and chamber music!
PLEASE NOTE THE TOUR DATES ARE SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT TO THOSE INDICATED IN OUR ADVANCE MAILER
The 'Progetto Martha Argerich' takes place every June when the Argentinian born pianist invites her musician friends both young and old to join her and make music! That means a line-up of some 50 world-class musicians including Mischa Maisky, Lilya Zilberstein, Dora Schwarzberg, Renaud & Gautier Capuçon, Nicholas Angelich and Sergio Tiempo (to name just a few!). It's always an exciting musical programme and always a memorable experience. THE FULL DETAILS OF OUR INCLUDED CONCERTS IS SHOWN BELOW (April 24th)
The holiday includes visits to the beautiful Villa Carlotta on Lake Como, Bellagio, Menaggio and the city of Como as well as free time to enjoy the beautiful garden and lakeside setting of the Stella. Flights from Manchester, one symphonic concert, at least one chamber concert and one recital, three dinners and two lunches included. All rooms at the Stella face the lake.
Lake Lugano is 70% in Switzerland and 30% in Italy. This year we stay on the Italian shore of the lake at a hotel that has become a firm favourite with Maestro clients over the past ten years, the enchanting Stella d'Italia situated in the lakeside hamlet of San Mamete.
Albergo Stella d'Italia opened in 1910 and remains owned and managed by the Ortelli family. It is unique in our experience of Italian lakeside hotels in that ALL rooms face the lake and the only difference between 'standard' and 'superior' is really the decor and size of the room. It has an idyllic setting besides the lake just 2km from the Swiss border and 7km from the centre of Lugano. San Mamete has a bank, baker, general store, pharmacy and hair-dresser as well as a few bars & cafes.
The hotel and it's beautiful garden invite you to relax and enjoy the lake. You can even use the hotel's own rowing boat for an excursion on the lake! If you want to explore independently a bus runs several times a day between Lugano and Menaggio on Lake Como, stopping outside the hotel in each direction. The hotel also has a once a day visit from the traditional lake steamer as it traverses the lake from Lugano to Porlezza.
Flights are with Swiss and SN Brussels Airways from Manchester, Birmingham or London via Zurich to Lugano returning from Milan Malpensa via Brussels to Manchester.
