In early April Anush Hovhannisyan will sing the role of Leonora in the rarely performed Verdi opera Oberto. The performance will take place at Cadogan Hall with the highly regarded Chelsea Opera Group. On the previous evening in the unique setting of the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse at the Globe, we have secured excellent seats for their new production of The Merchant of Venice.
Built in 2015, The Sam Wanamaker Playhouse is based on indoor candlelit theatres known to Shakespeare and his contemporaries. It’s not a reconstruction of a specific venue, but it echoes the Blackfriars Playhouse, used by Shakespeare’s theatre company from 1609. The venue can seat just 340 guests on benches and it lit by over one hundred beeswax candles. It presents a truly unique experience, perhaps as close as we can get to the feel of the early 17th century from the 21st.
Luxury coach transfers are provided from the usual Northwest pick-up points as well as two pre-performance dinners with wine. The group will be limited to 30 guests.
